FAYETTE — For the second time this week, Montpelier’s boys basketball team pulled out a nail-biting win over Fayette.

The Locomotives used a 10-7 fourth quarter advantage on Thursday to edge the Eagles 28-26 in a Buckeye Border Conference game.

Thursday’s win came just three days after Montpelier outlasted Fayette 60-57 in triple overtime.

Gavin Stratton scored a team-high seven points for Montpelier (5-1, 4-0 BBC), which was outscored 5-0 in the first quarter but led 12-10 at halftime. Tylor Yahraus added six points and Garrett Walz five on 5-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line.

Elijah Lerma’s game-high 14 points led Fayette (3-2, 2-2 BBC).

Blackbirds top Cadets

PETTISVILLE — Brennon Carter led Hilltop with 12 points as the Cadets fell to Pettisville 54-36 in a Buckeye Border Conference boys basketball game Thursday.

Ian Hoffman also scored in double figures with 10 points for Hilltop (0-10, 0-7 BBC). Treven Baer added seven points.

Cayden Jacoby totaled 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Blackbirds (5-1, 4-0 BBC). Max Leppelmeier added 19 points and four assists.
