The boys basketball season is just about here.
And several area teams will be taking each other on in nonleague play as the season gets underway on Friday.
Bryan (1-21 last season) will open its season against Williams County foe Edgerton (6-17) at 7:30 p.m. at Bryan High School. The two teams haven’t played each other since the 2007-08 season in both teams’ regular-season finale. The Golden Bears won 57-47 at Edgerton High School.
Meanwhile, two Williams County teams that know each other pretty well will play each other to start out their respective campaigns.
Montpelier and Hilltop, which both went 3-19 a season ago, face off in nonconference play 7:30 p.m. at Hilltop High School. The Locomotives won the nonleague game 63-48 at Montpelier High School last year, but the Cadets took the Buckeye Border Conference matchup 59-55 at Hilltop High School in regular-season play.
Edon (13-9, 6-1 BBC), the co-BBC champs last season (shared with North Central), Stryker (11-13) and Fairview (8-16) all play away contests to start the 2022-23 campaign.
The Bombers play Ayersville (18-6) in a 7:30 p.m. nonconference contest at Ayersville High School. The Pilots also handed Edon a 56-40 loss in a Division IV sectional final last season to end the Bombers’ 2021-22 campaign.
The Panthers, meanwhile, take on Toledo Christian (13-11) in nonleague play 7:30 p.m. Friday at Toledo Christian High School.
The Apaches play Green Meadows Conference foe Hicksville (15-8) in nonconference action 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hicksville High School. The Aces won a nonleague matchup 47-39 at Fairview High School and a Green Meadows Conference contest 53-27 at Hicksville last season.
Fairview is also looking for its first win against Hicksville since the 2015-16 season, when the Apaches beat the Aces 55-52 in a GMC game on Jan. 22, 2016 at Hicksville.
North Central (14-10) won’t start its season until Tuesday when it takes on Evergreen (13-10) at 7:30 p.m. at Evergreen High School.
