WHITEHOUSE — Bryan’s boys tennis had its three singles players push the Golden Bears to victory over Anthony Wayne.
Seniors Jay Fortner and Aiden Andrews, plus freshman Landon Bassett, each won their respective single matches to propel Bryan to a 3-2 win on Tuesday at Anthony Wayne High School.
The Golden Bears (25-0), whose girls tennis program broke its season wins record this year in the fall (24-2), have the most wins in a season in both programs’ history.
Fortner defeated Anthony Wayne’s Henry Diettrich 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles; Bassett got by Akash Dasari 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles; and Andrews only dropped two games in his 6-1, 6-1 victory over Caleb Foote at No. 3 singles.
Bryan seniors Carter Brown and Nathan Hess dropped their No. 1 doubles match to the Generals’ Logan Sutto and Paul Borgess. The Anthony Wayne duo won 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, Golden Bears senior Craig Jackson and sophomore Caleb McCashen fell 7-5, 6-3 to Ian Briars and Ben Talbert.
Bryan will return to the courts in a OHSAA Division II sectional tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday at Bryan High School. Fortner and Bassett earned the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds, respectively, in the singles bracket, while Brown and Hess are the No. 2 doubles seed.
While the regular season is over, the Golden Bears can still add on to their win total. Bryan hosts Ottawa Hills in a Division II semifinals match in the Northwest District of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team tournament at 4 p.m. Monday.
