Bryan’s boys tennis team cracked the top eight in Division II in the Northwest District as the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association released its latest district rankings for the 2021 season.
The Golden Bears, who have an 11-2 record, are ranked No. 7. Bryan’s lone losses this season came to Ottawa-Glandorf, which is ranked No. 3 in the Northwest District in Division II.
Ottawa Hills and Lexington grabbed the top two spots, while Norwalk, Lima Central Catholic and Lima Shawnee earned the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Bryan has been led by 2019 Division II state singles qualifier Jay Fortner. The Golden Bears’ junior standout has dominated so far this season; he has a 13-0 record and has lost just eight total games.
Senior Carter Brown (9-2) has been Bryan’s top No. 2 singles player, while Micah McCashen (3-2) and Caleb McCashen (3-4) have split time at No. 3 singles. Nathan Hess and Craig Jackson (9-2) have been solid at No. 1 doubles, while Aiden Andrews is also 9-2 at No. 2 doubles (4-1 with Caleb McCashen, 4-0 with Micah McCashen and 1-1 with Jackson).
The Golden Bears will face a stern test when they host Lima Shawnee at 5 p.m. today at Bryan High School.
