CENTERVILLE — Bryan’s girls bowling team finished eighth place, while the Golden Bears’ boys took 14th at the Centerville Sweet 16 Shootout on Saturday at Poelking Lanes South in Centerville.
Haylie Federspiel rolled a team-high 267 (146, 121) series for Bryan’s girls. Ashley Grymonprez (150, 112) and Jessi Federspiel (136, 126) each tallied a 262, while Kyah Davis bowled a 242 (123, 119). Polly Sleesman’s 237 (116, 121) rounded out the Golden Bears’ 1,270 match-play score.
Bryan got the eighth seed and picked up a win over No. 9 Sidney to start the tournament portion. The Golden Bears won the first two Bakers (128-106, 140-110) and fourth Baker (137-102) and lost the third game (147-130).
In the quarterfinals, though, Bryan was bested by No. 1 Butler in five Baker games. Butler took a 2-0 match lead with a 187-135 win and 189-163 victory, but the Golden Bears took the next two games (165-148, 143-128) to tie the match at 2-2. Butler, though, earned a 181-132 victory in the fifth Baker to finish off Bryan.
Caleb Muhe tallied a team-high 343 (193, 150) to lead the Golden Bears’ boys. Dakota Brandeberry (152, 173) and Issac Stoy (165, 160) each had a 325, while Xander Douglas contributed a 243 (116, 127) in Bryan’s 1,431 match-play performance.
The No. 13-seeded Golden Bears were swept 172-157, 192-108, 197-149 by No. 4 Urbana in the opening round of tournament play.
No. 1 Centerville (1,894 in match play) won the boys bracket, while Butler (1,696) was victorious in the girls bracket.
