Bryan senior offensive lineman Tyler Spisak, a key component of the Golden Bears’ strong running game, and Edon senior wideout Caden Nester, one of the top offensive threats in the area, earned first-team honors as the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association released its all-Northwest District football selections for the 2022 campaign.
Spisak in Division IV and Nester in Division VII were among 12 area players to receive recognition from the OPSWA media panel from the district.
Spisak, a 6-foot, 245-pound guard who was a first-team Northwest Ohio Athletic League selection as well, anchored a solid senior-laden group in the trenches for the Golden Bears. He helped create running lanes in a Bryan offense that averaged 243 rushing yards per game in the regular season; the Golden Bears tallied at least 300 rushing yards in four games, at least 200 in six games and at least 100 in nine contests.
Meanwhile, Nester (6-2, 192) received all-Northwest District honors for the second-straight season after being named honorable mention a year ago. Nester reeled in 76 catches for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns in the Bombers’ high-powered passing attack.
Eight area players were second-team selections.
Bryan senior Parker Vollmer (5-11, 241), a four-year letterwinner and standout on both sides of the ball, earned the honor as a defensive lineman. He was a threat especially late in the year when Bryan (6-5, 4-3 NWOAL, Region 14 playoff qualifier) gave up just 31 points in a three-game winning streak to cap off the regular season.
In Division VII, Edon senior wide receiver Carter Kiess (5-11, 134), senior offensive lineman Garrett Skiles (5-10, 173), sophomore quarterback Kyler Sapp (6-0, 171) and sophomore linebacker Cohen Hulbert (5-11, 177) were each named second team.
Kiess had 65 catches for 920 yards and nine touchdowns, while Skiles received his second Northwest District honor (honorable mention last year). Sapp threw for 2,905 yards, 26 touchdowns and five interceptions on 218-of-351 passing (62 percent) while also adding seven scores and 251 yards on the ground.
Hulbert racked up a team-high 127 total tackles and had a fumble recovery as well for Edon, which finished 5-6 overall and made the Region 26 playoffs.
A pair of Edgerton seniors were second-team honorees, including wide receiver Kadyn Picillo (6-1, 170) and defensive back Corey Everetts (5-11, 155). Everetts earned district recognition for the second-straight year (honorable mention in 2021).
Picillo racked up 654 yards and eight touchdowns on 44 receptions, while Everetts had 78 total tackles (44 solo) and four interceptions for a Bulldogs’ team that also made the Region 26 playoffs (7-4 overall).
Three Montpelier players were recognized as well in Division VII. Senior defensive lineman Jamison Grime (6-1, 215) was named second team after being honorable mention last season.
Locomotives’ juniors Eli Fackler (6-1, 195, defensive lineman) and Brennen Friend (5-9, 155, running back) received honorable mention.
