Fairview’s softball team and Montpelier’s baseball squad earned rankings as the state coaches association for both sports earlier this week released its first poll results for the 2021 season.
Fairview was ranked ninth in Division III in the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association poll, while Montpelier was ranked 17th in Division IV by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The Apaches, who have racked up five district championships in the last seven years, have been on a tear as of late. Fairview has won 10 straight games after a season-opening loss to undefeated Bryan, and the Apaches are unbeaten so far in Green Meadows Conference play (3-0).
Fairview has posted seven-straight double-digit victories and nine total. The Apaches are averaging 13.1 runs per game and have posted six shutouts.
Meanwhile, Montpelier won nine of its first 10 games before dropping its last two. The Locomotives (9-3) are still unbeaten in the Buckeye Border Conference at 6-0.
Montpelier has reached double digits scoring in eight games and have posted four shutouts, including a five-inning no-hitter from senior Blake Altaffer in a 10-0 win over Stryker on March 30 and a five-inning perfect game with 14 strikeouts from Altaffer in a 33-0 victory over Fayette on April 15.
