LIMA — Bryan’s girls basketball team kept up with Marion Local in the second half, but it was not enough.

The Flyers had three players score in double digits and shut down the Golden Bears to just 13 first-half points and won 43-33 on the first day of the Kewpee Tip Off Classic on Friday at Lima Bath High School.

Blayze Langenderfer scored a team-high nine points, while Addie Arnold (eight points) and Reese Grothaus (seven) were close behind in Bryan’s season debut.

Sammy Hoelscher dropped a game-high 14 points for Marion Local, and Lindsey Koenig and Stella Huelsman each chipped in 10.

The Golden Bears will face Lima Senior (0-1) today. The Spartans lost to Lima Bath 54-24 in the second game of the tournament on Friday.

Edgerton loses home opener

EDGERTON — Edgerton’s Grace Schroeder tallied a game-high 18 points, but the Bulldogs couldn’t muster up any other offense as Holgate won 55-23 in nonconference play to open the girls basketball season on Friday at Edgerton High School.

Holgate’s Justine Eis also scored 18 points, while Olivia Blaker had 14. Lexa Schuller also added eight points for the Tigers.

Fairview falls

ST. MARYS — St. Marys Memorial’s girls basketball team had a 14-point edge after the first quarter and never let up as the Roughriders cruised by the Apaches 75-52 in nonleague play in both teams’ season opener on Friday at St. Marys Memorial High School.

Kelly Crites had a near double-double with 21 points and nine boards and added three steals for Fairview. Carrie Zeedyk contributed 18 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Haley Hammer (three rebounds, two assists, one steal) and Kaitlyn Zeedyk (three rebounds, three assists, two steals) each chipped in five points.

No St. Marys Memorial stats were reported.
