DELTA — A slow start in the first quarter and a chilly night offensively proved costly for Montpelier on Saturday.

The No. 4-seed Locomotives fell behind 15-5 after the first quarter and couldn’t recover as they lost to No. 3 Delta 49-35 in a Division III sectional girls basketball final at Delta High School.

Montpelier, which had a 13-game winning streak during the regular season and went unbeaten in Buckeye Border Conference play at 12-0, finished its season 18-4.

Delta (15-6) advanced to take on No. 2 Eastwood at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in a district semifinal at Anthony Wayne High School.

Jessi Bumb hit three 3-pointers for a team-high nine points for the Locos. Ariel Page added eight points, Trinity Richmire seven and Ali Repp five.

Montpelier, which averaged 52.4 points per game during the regular season, was held to a season-low scoring output Saturday.

Brooklyn Green scored a game-high 16 points for Delta. Brooklyn Wymer (12 points) and Brealyn Wymer (11) also scored in double figures.

Fairview rolls

SHERWOOD — Fairview freshman Kelly Crites scored eight of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter as the Apaches cruised past Van Buren 54-33 in a Division III sectional final at Fairview High School.

Fairview (20-3), the No. 3 seed, advanced to take on No. 4 Delphos Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Elida Fieldhouse. Van Buren, the No. 8 seed, finished its season 13-9.

Kiersten Cline added nine points, Karrie Smith eight and Carrie Zeedyk seven for a balanced Fairview offense, which knocked down 15-of-19 free throws. The Apaches led 14-7 after the first quarter, 26-16 at halftime and 40-26 after three.

Anna Durliat’s nine points fronted the Black Knights. Sophia Reineke and Ali Bishop both scored eight.

Stryker loses in D-IV play

CONVOY — Stryker sophomore Sage Woolace poured in a team-high 20 points, but the Panthers’ girls basketball season came to an end Saturday as they lost to No. 1-seed Convoy Crestview 60-32 in a Division IV sectional final.

Convoy Crestview (19-3) advanced to take on No. 8 North Central in a district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Defiance High School.

Stryker, the No. 11 seed, finished the season 8-12.

Cali Gregory’s game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers, powered Convoy Crestview. Olivia Cunningham and Raegan Hammons added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Knights built a 35-16 halftime lead and 49-22 advantage after three quarters.

Woolace had a pair of 3-pointers and was 6 of 7 from the free-throw line for Stryker. Alexia Wickerham added five points and Haylee Fulk chipped in four.
