Antwerp 41, Edgerton 39
The Edgerton girls basketball team nearly erased a nine-point deficit after three quarters, but fell just short, losing to Antwerp 41-39 on the road on Thursday night.
Bulldogs senior Ally Cape made a game-high-tying three 3-pointers to lead Edgerton with 11 points. Emma Siebenaler also finished in double-figures with 10 points, while Casey Leppelmeier scored eight points. Coral Picillo added six points, while Madison Smith (three points) and Audrey Schroeder (one point) also got in the scorebook.
Heather Oberlin paced Antwerp with 19 points.
Edgerton finishes its regular season at 6-16 overall, with a 2-5 mark in the Green Meadows Conference. The Bulldogs play Edon (10-12, 8-4 Buckeye Border Conference) in a Div. IV sectional semifinal at Paulding High School on Wednesday. Antwerp ends the season at 12-10 overall, 4-3 in the GMC. The Archers face Fayette (12-10, 7-5 BBC) in a Div. IV sectional semifinal at Bryan High School on Tuesday.
Fairview 58, Tinora 44
The Fairview girls basketball team fell one game short of the GMC title after beating home team Tinora 58-44 on Thursday night.
Riley Mealer made six of her seven free-throw attempts to lead the Apaches with 16 points. Kiersten Cline added 12 points and six steals, while Carrie Zeedyk finished with nine points. Olivia Ricica scored eight points and added 12 rebounds. Michelle Marshall scored five points, and Karrie Smith and Cassie Mavis had four points apiece.
Fairview closes its regular season at 17-5, with a 6-1 record in the GMC. The Apaches will play either Spencerville (14-8, 6-2 Northwest Conference) or Van Buren (13-9, 5-5 Blanchard Valley Conference) in a Div. III sectional final at Lincolnview High School on Feb. 22. Tinora closes the regular season at 3-19, 2-5 in the GMC. The Rams will face Liberty-Benton (17-3, 9-0 BVC) in a Div. III sectional semifinal on Wednesday.
