Holgate remains in the Green Meadows Conference (GMC) after the league’s executive board took no action to remove the district during its meeting Wednesday.

According to Holgate Local Schools Superintendent Kelly Meyers, the GMC Executive Board did not hold a vote to remove Holgate from the league. Meyers said the GMC board will meet again at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 to allow members to discuss and review their options with personnel in their districts and for athletics directors to review scheduling conflicts and options that exist in terms of adding a ninth school.

Because there was not a vote held, Holgate’s special board meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday evening was canceled.

On Monday, Holgate’s board of education voted against joining the Buckeye Border Conference (BBC), which issued an invitation to the district in October.

The BBC’s invitation to Holgate remains open as of now, although communication with a representative of the BBC previously indicated that if Holgate chooses not to join the BBC, and another school shows interest, the league would then formally withdraw its invitation.
