The Montpelier boys basketball team is still looking for its first win of the season following a 56-37 defeat on the road against Hicksville on Saturday night.
The Locomotives had trouble stopping Hicksville’s Landon Turnbull, who scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Senior Travian Tunis added 16 points for Hicksville, while Jackson Bergman added seven points. Jacob Miller contributed with four points for the Aces, while Josh Myers added one of the Aces’ two 3-pointers for three points of his own.
Montpelier’s Tylor Yahraus had a breakout game with 18 points for the Locos. Thomas Jay followed with seven points, while Blake Altaffer added six of his own. Austin Peffley had four points, and Braden Saneholtz and Rowen Beck had a point apiece.
Montpelier turned the ball over 18 times, compared to the six Aces turnovers the Locomotives forced.
Montpelier drops to 0-2 on the season, including 0-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference, carried over from Friday’s loss to Pettisville. The Locomotives return to BBC action against North Central (1-0, 1-0) on Thursday.
