The Montpelier wrestling team edged out Bryan 30-27 in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League dual match on Tuesday in Montpelier.
Three Montpelier wrestlers earned wins. In the 132-pound weight class, Landon Brigle won by pin against Lane Hurlbert. Kasche Bible beat Bryan’s Aiden Fenter by pin in the 138-pound weight class as well. Locomotives senior Brayden Custer beat Bryan’s Sam Smith by pin in the 160-pound weight class. Montpelier’s Gavin Wurm and Elijah Hutchinson won by forfeits in the 170-pound weight class and the 182-pound weight class, respectively.
Bryan’s Broston Bernath beat Montpelier’s Ivan Nichols by pin at 145 pounds, while Mikey Wolff beat Winston Nichols by pin at 152 pounds. Bryan’s Dylan McCandless (195 pounds) and Carter Hoffman (220 pounds) also won their matches by pin. Bryan 285-pounder Christian Hollister beat Montpelier senior Mason Foote by a 3-2 decision.
The teams double forfeited the 106-, 113-, 120- and 126-pound weight classes.
Montpelier returns to the mat this Saturday at the Archbold Invitational, while Bryan will wrestle again on Jan. 25 at the Elmwood Invitational.
