DEFIANCE — Hunter Burlew posted a score on Thursday that no one at Montpelier has shot in more than 40 years.
The Locomotives’ senior golfer tied the school record for best individual 18-hole round after firing an even-par 72 to win medalist honors at the Paulding Invitational at Auglaize Golf Club.
Burlew’s total tied Gary Kime’s record set in 1979.
Burlew, who started his round on No. 6, shot a 37 on the front nine and a 35 on the back. He edged Kalida’s Ryan Klausing by one stroke for medalist honors.
Bryan notched its third consecutive third-place team finish after shooting a 331, while Montpelier was fourth with a 343. Fairview (360) was eighth in the 16-team field.
Kalida (326) edged Wauseon (328) for the team title.
Bryan’s Nolan Kidston finished with a 78 to lead the Golden Bears. Drew Dauber and Nathan Hess both shot 83, while Noah Huard had an 87.
Ethan Marihugh backed Burlew up with an 87 for Montpelier, while Jaxon Richmond added a 91. Easten Richmond and Aidan Higbie both shot 93.
Ronnie Adkins fronted Fairview with an 81, Nathaniel Adkins added an 89 and Kasen Kauffman had a 91. Brendan Degryse’s 99 completed the Apaches’ score.
