HILLIARD — Montpelier sophomore Makaya Crisenbery posted a 1-2 record, while teammate and freshman Jacee Altaffer dropped both of her matches on the first day of the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association girls state tournament Saturday at Hilliard Davidson High School.
Crisenbery, competing in the 121-pound weight class, lost a 15-9 decision in her opening match to Lakota West’s Grace Hicks. Crisenbery bounced back in the first consolation round by pinning Mentor’s Alana Shriver in 1:13.
In the second consolation round, Crisenbery fell to Olentangy Orange’s Ayla Castin via pin in 2:08. Castin went on to win in consolation bracket to finish fifth.
Meanwhile, Altaffer (111 pounds) was pinned by Bethel-Tate’s Alexa Donahue in 2:27 in her first match, then fell to Deleware Hayes’ Molly Wells via pin in 1:38 in the consolation bracket.
Miami East’s Olivia Shore, who pinned Altaffer for the OHSWCA Northwest District title on Feb. 14, won the 111-pound state championship. Sidney’s Josie Davis finished first at 121 pounds.
