SHERWOOD — Fairview’s softball team held Napoleon scoreless over two games and allowed just eight hits in sweeping the Wildcats in a nonleague softball doubleheader Saturday at Fairview High School.
The Apaches (16-1) won the first game 6-0 and the second 9-0 to extend their winning streak to 16 games.
Paige Ricica tossed a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks in the opener for Fairview. Clair Shininger belted a home run and drove in two runs, while Anna Ankney also homered and tallied three RBIs.
Alyssa Merritt smacked three hits, including a double, while Emerald Rittenhouse-Starbuck doubled and singled.
Madi Shank took the loss for Napoleon after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits in six innings pitched. She had seven strikeouts and three walks.
In the second game, Jasmin Minck and Sydney Merritt combined for the shutout. Minck earned the win after allowing three hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and a walk. Merritt tossed the final two frames and allowed two hits with two strikeouts.
Ricica roped a double, three singles and drove in a run, while Kaylin Mack doubled, singled and drove in four runs to lead Fairview’s offense. Ankney, Rittenhouse-Starbuck and Allison Rhodes each had a double and a triple.
Erica Meyer had two hits to lead Napoleon.
Stryker splits with Delta
DELTA — Stryker tallied 18 runs on 14 hits to win the opener, but Delta came back with a big finish in the second game as the two softball teams split a nonleague doubleheader on Saturday at Delta.
Stryker won the first game 18-5 in five innings, but Delta used a seven-run fourth inning to help post a 9-8 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
Haylee Fulk racked up three hits and four RBIs, while Emmalee Fulk tripled, singled and drove in a run for Stryker (4-7) in the first game. Marissa Myers doubled, singled and drove in two runs, and Sage Woolace, winning pitcher Caitlyn Lyons and Brooke Collins each had two hits and combined for five RBIs.
Kate Friess doubled, single and drove in a run for Delta (1-14). Reagan Rouleau, Faith Kern and Jasey Spiess each added two hits.
Woolace smacked a home run, added a single and drove in three runs for Stryker in the second game. Fulk and Collins both had a hit and an RBI.
Delta trailed 5-2 after three innings, but scored seven in the fourth to take a 9-5 lead. Stryker came back with three runs in the fifth but fell just short.
Friess tripled, singled twice and had two RBIs, while Spiess also had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs in the second contest. Rouleau doubled, singled and had an RBI.
