McCord reaches 1,000 career digs

MONTPELIER — Montpelier’s volleyball team had a historic night on Tuesday.

Chelsea McCord collected her 1,000th career dig, while Ariel Page broke the season record for kills as the Locomotives held on for a 20-25, 25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 17-15 Buckeye Border Conference victory over Pettisville on Tuesday at Montpelier High School.

Page pummeled 20 kills to reach 224 on the year so far, breaking the previous record held by Hannah Blake (218). McCord also added 13 kills and four blocks for Montpelier (10-11, 4-2 BBC).

Cadey Hillard contributed 26 digs and three aces, while Kelsie Bumb dished out 32 assists for the Locos.

Rosemary Baer had 19 digs and 10 kills to lead the Blackbirds (6-15, 2-4 BBC).

Eagles fly over Bombers

EDON — North Central’s Kendal Bonney hammered 29 kills in the Eagles’ 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 Buckeye Border Conference volleyball win over Edon on Tuesday at Edon High School.

Bonney added six assists, three blocks, two aces and four digs, while Madison Brown (four kills, five digs) dished out 31 assists for North Central (17-4, 5-1 BBC). Erin Elser (three aces) and Lauren Balser each collected 10 digs.

Carlie Kiess had six kills, 14 digs and one ace to front the Bombers (10-9, 4-2 BBC). Kerrin Towers had four digs and four aces, Olivia Mitchell seven kills and four digs and Emma Hickman 14 assists, two digs and two aces.

Fairview earns key GMC win

SHERWOOD — Fairview’s volleyball team stayed undefeated in Green Meadows Conference play on Tuesday in order to stay in the hunt for a second straight conference title.

The Apaches swept Ayersville 25-13, 25-9, 25-22 in a GMC match at Fairview High School to improve to 6-0 in the conference.

Fairview (16-5, 6-0 GMC) will face Tinora (16-4, 6-0) to see who’s the GMC champion at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Tinora High School.

Kelly Crites had 15 kills (28-of-32 spiking) and 15 digs, while Paige Ricica smashed 12 kills (31-of-38 spiking), 15 digs, two solo blocks and fired three aces (26-of-26 serving) for Fairview.

Haley Hammer also dished out 34 assists for the Apaches. Emma Wynne collected 16 digs and Carrie Zeedyk 12.

The Pilots fell to 14-7 (4-2).

Edgerton swept

EDGERTON — Edgerton’s volleyball team almost took the second set, but lost it as Antwerp swept the Bulldogs 25-11, 26-24, 25-17 for a Green Meadows Conference victory on Tuesday at Edgerton High School.

Noelle Ritter had six kills on 27-of-30 spiking and 19 digs for Edgerton (6-14, 0-6 GMC). Addie Cape added 14 digs, while Grace Schroeder had four kills (16-of-19 spiking) and two aces (13-of-14 serving).

Taylor Smith also dished out seven assists on 52-of-52 setting for the Bulldogs.
