PIQUA — Montpelier graduate Blake Altaffer tossed seven scoreless innings, while classmate Tylor Yahraus racked up four hits and two RBIs as the Napoleon American Legion Post #300 baseball team knocked off Piqua 9-1 on Friday at Piqua.
Altaffer allowed just three hits and had six strikeouts and four walks in earning the win on the mound. Fairview’s Caleb Frank pitched the final two frames and allowed an earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Yahraus doubled among his four hits. Bryan’s Breven Deckrosh was a triple away from the cycle and had two RBIs, while Frank homered and singled.
The River Bandits led 3-0 after seven innings, but scored three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to pull away.
Napoleon had 12 hits to Piqua’s six. Both teams had three errors.
The River Bandits (2-1) are scheduled to return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Ottawa Post #63 at Memorial Field in Ottawa.
