Storehouse 4 Hope was recently awarded a $5,800 grant from the Power in the Purse group.
Power in the Purse is a group of women associated with the Bryan Area Foundation who meet four times a year and offer financial aid to local nonprofit organizations, this time the recipient was Storehouse 4 Hope.
“I was shocked,” Jennifer Martin, co-founder of Storehouse 4 Hope, said. “There were three very good presentations made for nonprofits. I actually just about cried. It felt amazing to know that there are other people out there that believe in what we do.”
Storehouse 4 Hope is a nonprofit that helps individuals and families with financial needs by offering financial assistance in the short term and then offering guidance to avoid financial struggles in the future.
“The money that we have to be able to assist individuals and families are received solely from church partners or individual partners,” Martin said. “We have a very small amount coming in per month and this grant will help us help more.”
Power in the Purse began in 2016 and meets four times a year to decide which nonprofit they will donate money to. Since its inception, the group has donated over $170,000 to local organizations.
“We are still looking for more donors and no nonprofit organization will ever tell you that they have too many volunteers,” Martin said. “We would love to increase the amount of volunteers we have to be able to help more people with financial coaching.”
