Two area coaching vacancies will be filled — pending school board approval — early next week at Monday’s Bryan City Schools and Tuesday’s Montpelier Exempted Village Schools meetings.
Corey Walker, an assistant coach for Bryan’s baseball team, will be named varsity head baseball coach for the Golden Bears. Nick Ramos, an assistant boys basketball coach at Montpelier, will take over as the Locomotives’ head varsity boys hoops coach.
Walker will take over for Jeff Inselmann, who guided the Golden Bears to a 165-75 record and several Northwest Ohio Athletic League and Division II sectional titles, as well as a district championship, in nine seasons as coach. Inselmann stepped down in late May due to family reasons.
Walker, who teaches social studies in grades six to 12 for Bryan City Schools, graduated from Archbold High School in 2010 and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo. Along with being an assistant on Inselmann’s staff, Walker has also coached junior high boys basketball at Bryan and spent time on Archbold’s ACME baseball coaching staff.
Ramos will take the reins from Justin Houk, who stepped down as Montpelier’s coach in mid-March for family reasons as well. Houk went 19-45 in three years as the Locos’ coach, including 10-9 during the 2020-21 season. It was the first time Montpelier finished over .500 since the 2016-17 season (12-10).
