One person died in a head-on collision Thursday morning on U.S. 6 east of the village of Edgerton.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Rustun Schack reported that at 8:22 a.m. Thursday, John W. Kinney, 79, of West Liberty, was driving west on U.S. 6 while Shelley R. Armstrong, 60, Edgerton, was driving east.

Kinney’s 2021 Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck traveled left of center at County Road 6 and struck Armstrong’s 2016 Buick Regal. Armstrong’s vehicle remained on the roadway while Kinney’s slid off the left side of the road and struck a utility junction box.

Armstrong had to be extricated by mechanical means and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Kinney also had to be extricated. He was transported by Williams County EMS to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan and later flown by ProMedica Life Flight to Toledo Hospital.

The Edgerton police and fire departments assisted at the scene with Hutch’s Towing & Recovery and the Williams County Prosecutor’s Office. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

U.S. 6 was restricted to one lane for approximately 90 minutes, Schack said. The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers and occupants to always where their seat belts, and never drive distracted or impaired.
