A Defiance man has been arrested, with the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office alleging he had inappropriate contact with minors over several years.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office investigated a reported child abuse case, resulting in the arrest of Robert Barker, 68.
Barker was charged with two counts of sexual battery and three counts of gross sexual imposition, all felonies of the third degree.
The alleged incidents occurred between 2016 and 2018, and involved minors under the age of 15, authorities said.
Barker is currently being held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. Online court records show he was in Defiance Municipal Court on Friday, when his bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety.
A case file has been sent to the Defiance County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to a Defiance County grand jury.
Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Defiance County Job and Family Services’ Child Protection Unit.
