An Edon man was transported for injuries following a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a semi tractor-trailer Thursday evening in Indiana, but is said to be in stable condition after extraction by authorities.

Authorities said that around 6:06 p.m. Thursday, Edon resident Franklin Figgins, 35, was driving his 1998 Black Ford Ranger eastbound in the 6000 block of U.S. 20 when he attempted a pass of a vehicle turning north on the right. Figgins then left the south side of the highway and lost control, went across the center line in front a westbound commercial vehicle driven by Larry Mills, 70, of Columbiana, when the vehicles collided.

Figgins was reportedly flown to Fort Wayne, Indiana, by a Samaritan medical helicopter in serious but stable condition.

The accident is under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

Agencies responding included the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Fremont and Angola police departments, Angola and Metz fire departments and Steuben County EMS.
