Humane Society hosts Paws Camp

Sgt. Josh Mercer and K-9 Justice of the Montpelier Police Department recently visited Paws Camp at the Williams County Humane Society. At right is camper Jaxon Hamilton. Paws Camp teaches local children ages 8-12 how to properly care for pets, including what to feed them, understanding their emotions and about topics such as spay and neuter. In the past, the camp has been a morning program once a month at the shelter. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp was held only in July this summer. The camp is led by Beth Reimund, Trudy Day and Jackie Boyd. Usually children can walk dogs and play with the cats and kittens, the county dog warden will give a talk and a veterinarian visits, though this year the vet could not due to an emergency.
