Harold Carlson, 69, of Montpelier, originally indicted by a Williams County grand jury on 17 felony sex offenses, has been convicted on two and will be behind bars for the next dozen years.
Carlson pleaded guilty in July to two counts of rape and was sentenced in late August on the same two counts to six years for each, to be served consecutively (12 years), plus five years of post-release control.
He received credit for 297 days previously served at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. Carlson was also designated a Tier III sex offender.
One of the two counts to which he pleaded guilty specified a female victim aged 13-21, the other a female victim aged 13. One count refers to offenses committed between April 2010 and August 2018 and the other between April 2010 and March 2011.
All other original charges were not prosecuted, in exchange for Carlson’s guilty pleas.
Original charges also included one count of third-degree felony sexual battery involving a juvenile victim; 12 counts of first-degree felony rape involving juvenile and adult victims; two counts of first-degree felony kidnapping involving juvenile victims; and four counts of first-degree felony complicity to rape in which he allegedly forced juvenile victims to engage in sexual activity with each other.
