The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported eight traffic accidents resulted in 10 fatalities throughout the state over the Labor Day weekend, from midnight Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday, but none were in northwest Ohio.
Seven of the fatalities were reported in southern Ohio with four in Montgomery County, two in Lawrence County and one in Clermont County. Marion, Portage and Stark counties each reported one fatality.
The Defiance Post reported one accident in Williams County over the holiday weekend, at 12:15 a.m. Monday on Ohio 34, between County Road 8 and County Road 9. The driver, Shelby Gillen, 25, of Montpelier, sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. She was arrested and charged with OVI and failure to control and taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.
Over the long weekend, troopers made 26,035 enforcement stops throughout the state with 219 in Williams County, 305 in Fulton County, 223 in Defiance County and 95 in Henry County. They issued a total of 3,289 citations for seat belt violations and made a total of 538 OVI arrests, 477 drug arrests and 170 felony apprehensions.
The patrol reported 12 fatalities during the Labor Day weekends in 2019 and 2018, and 24 during the Labor Day weekend in 2017.
