One person died in a single-vehicle accident Monday night northeast of Evansport.

The Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that at 8:09 p.m. the driver of a 2011 Dodge Nitro SUV was traveling north on County Road 24 when his vehicle slid off the left side of the roadway near U.S. 6 and got stuck in the ditch.

A fire started as the driver attempted to get the SUV out of the ditch and engulfed the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Williams County Coroner Dr. Kevin Park.

The Stryker Fire Department, sheriff’s deputies and EMS also responded to the scene and the crash remains under investigation. Additional information will be released after the driver has been identification and next of kin notified.
