An SUV struck an a man riding a bicycle Friday morning in Bryan.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol officials, the bicyclist, identified as Zachary A. Fisher, age 21 of Montpelier, Ohio, was transported for “severe injuries” to Mercy Health — St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo via Life Flight and, as of 9 p.m. Friday, was listed in critical condition.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m on County Road 13 about a half mile north of County Road H in Bryan. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Defiance Post Lt. Robert Ashenfelter, a 2017 Dodge Journey driven by Joseph Klender, 38, of Bryan, was traveling southbound on County Road 13, when it struck the bicycle. The bicyclist is reported to have been traveling southbound in the center of the roadway. Fisher was not wearing a helmet and his condition Saturday morning is unknown.

Anyone who can help identify the bicyclist is asked to call the Defiance Post of OSHP at 419-784-1025.

OSHP was assisted at the crash scene by the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Montpelier Police Department, Bryan Fire and Rescue and St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Life Flight.
