The Ohio State Highway Patrol shut down Ohio 576 for 90 minutes Monday morning while two medical helicopters landed at the scene of an injury accident north of County Road J.

At 1:28 a.m. Monday, Rowen S. Beck, 18, of Montpelier, was driving north on Ohio 576 when his 2010 Ford Fusion traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Beck was flown by Samaritan Medical Transport to the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

His passenger, Jaden Wantong, 20, of Montpelier, was flown by ProMedica Life Flight to the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Both men sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Lt. Robert Ashenfelter, commander of the OSHP’s Defiance Post, said alcohol use was not suspected.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded with the Montpelier police and fire departments, along with Hutch’s Towing and Recovery from Holiday City.
