Carol Lou Hilkert, 86, of Ormond Beach, Florida, peacefully passed away while surrounded by family on Jan. 11, 2023.
Carol was born on March 7, 1936, to Lou and Ray Yarger in Montpelier, Ohio. After Carol graduated from high school in 1954, she went to college to earn a degree in radiology.
Carol spent many years as a volunteer for the Red Cross.
Carol met the love of her life, Max Hilkert, at age 14. The two high school sweethearts married in 1958 and were together for 64 years. Carol and Max went on to have two children, Randy Hilkert and Gwen (Ron) Large.
Carol often did volunteer work, was a Red Hatter, an avid dog lover and loved to play golf and tennis. She also enjoyed playing cards, sewing, making crafts, and feeding the birds in her garden — but her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and mother-in-law. CC, as they called her, absolutely adored her four beautiful granddaughters, Mikella Large, Casey Large, Kayla Hilkert and Courtney Hilkert.
Carol had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and at home. She was class, she was beauty, she was grace, she was love, she was laughter, she was sunshine, she was everything and so much more.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Lou and Ray Yarger. She is survived by her husband, Max; son, Randy, and wife, Darlene; daughter, Gwen, and husband, Ron; granddaughters Mikella, Casey, Courtney and Kayla (husband Cam Vermette); and sister, Colleen (Leigh) Larson.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.
