I read with much sadness the report of the Bryan City Council meeting. After reading about the proposal of the DORA project, I could not help but compare this proposal to by-gone days:

1. Someone needing to consume alcoholic beverages in public now — I remember being called a "wine-o" in past days.

2. A cup designated to carry your "legal" alcoholic beverages on the public streets — I remember being a bottle with a brown paper bag twisted around it so no one could see the contents.

3. The street where this consummation of alcoholic beverages took place was called Skid Row — instead of the proposed Main Street.

We have come a long way! But are we traveling in the right direction? Seems like we are moving downward instead of upward. Do we want Bryan to be known for being so progressive that we allow this to happen? I certainly hope not. I have a sign on my desk at work that says: "Right is right even if no one is doing it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it." I implore our leaders to do the right thing in this decision. Thank you.
