ARCHBOLD — A number of area athletes placed in the top four of their respective events at Day 1 of a Division III district track meet in Archbold on Thursday and as a result to next week’s regional meet in Tiffin.

Day 1 of of the district track meet in Archbold featured prelims, field event finals and the finals of the 4x800-meter relay.

Those athletes moving on to regionals are as follows:

The Fairview girls 4x800 team of Leah Layman, Taylor King, Gabriella McCool and Samantha Rohrs placed third in District 2 in 10:24.57.

Fairview’s Karrie Smith was fourth in the District 2 high jump after clearing 4 feet, 10 inches.

Edon’s Riley Bloir was third in the District 1 long jump with a leap of 16 feet, while her teammate Briana Heinze was fourth with a leap of 15-7.

North Central’s Kassidy Faler was second in the District 1 pole vault after clearing 8-6.

A host of other area athletes qualified out of their prelims to finals, which resume at Day 2 of the meet, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday with field events, followed by running events at noon.
