Baseball is back.
After the coronavirus outbreak canceled the 2020 OHSAA spring sports season, the Bryan baseball team returned to Sumpter Field on Monday, losing to Anthony Wayne 9-6 in eight innings to begin its summer slate of games.
After spotting the Generals a 3-0 lead through five innings, Bryan’s Breven Deckrosh opened up the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run to put the Bears on the board and close Anthony Wayne’s lead to 3-1.
The Bears — who only had one hit through five innings — exploded in the sixth after Deckrosh’s home run to score six runs during the frame and take a 6-3 lead into the seventh inning.
Anthony Wayne rallied back in the seventh, scoring three runs in the inning to knot the game at 6-6 and force extra innings.
The Generals then scored three runs in the top of the eighth, and held the Bears off the board during the bottom of the eighth to come away with the 9-6 victory.
The loss drops Bryan to 0-1 on the season, and the Bears continue play at Tinora on Friday for a nine-inning game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
