PETTISVILLE — The Bryan girls basketball team kept the roll to its 2019-20 season going by cruising to a lopsided 48-22 victory on the road against the Pettisville Blackbirds on Tuesday.

Bryan (11-3, 2-0 Northwest Ohio Athletic League) left little in doubt during the game, holding the Blackbirds (2-11, 2-6 Buckeye Border Conference) without a field goal in the first quarter to take an 11-1 lead, before going to a 20-8 lead at the half.

The game was never close in the second half, either, as the Bears ran away to their 48-22 victory.

Despite the wide margin of victory, Bryan coach Todd Grosjean felt his girls left a lot to be desired.

“We’ve got to learn from this,” Grosjean said. “We were probably heavily favored tonight. We were playing a Pettisville team that was very young, and we needed to go out there and take care of business. But we just kind of went through the motions. (Pettisville) played harder than we did during the first half, and we let them hang around.

“You can’t play when you want. Good teams go out and take care of business.”

Bryan plays in three road games this week, so Grosjean gave minutes to several different players in an effort to save legs. Ten different players got in the scoring column, too, led by Addie Arnold’s eight-point effort. McKendry Semer, Shallyn Miley, Jadynn Cupp and Bre Long each contributed six points to help pace the Bears.

“It’s a good thing we have a deep bench, because we had some other kids come in and give us good minutes,” Grosjean said. “But, collectively, we’ve just got to learn from this and the next time we’re in this situation, ... we need to take care of business early.”

Bryan returns to action with an NWOAL tilt at Wauseon (10-3, 1-1) on Thursday.
