The Bryan golf team lost a close one to Wayne Trace at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Payne on Tuesday.
The Golden Bears and Raiders finished the nine-hole dual match tied at 165. However, since Wayne Trace’s fifth man, Garrett Williamson finished with a round of 54, compared to Bryan’s fifth man Wyatt Taylor, who scored 67, the Raiders came out victorious.
Bryan’s Case Hartman led Bryan at the match after firing a round of 36. He was followed by teammates Nolan Kidston (41), Drew Dauber (44), Colin Shirkey (44), Taylor (67) and Sam Doty (76).
Wayne Trace was led by a round of 35 from Dane Moore, who earned medalist honors. He was followed by teammates Kaden Sutton (37), Evan Crosby (46), Reid Miller (47) and Williamson (54).
“The team continues to improve,” Bryan coach Tyler Bernath said in an email. “We played much better today than we did yesterday. If you double our nine-hole score today, we would have won the tournament yesterday. Granted, it was a much easier course today and that’s not how the game works. I’m hoping today was a little confidence booster for everyone, even though the end result wasn’t quite what we wanted.”
Antwerp tops Montpelier
The Antwerp Archers boys golf team beat the Montpelier Locomotives 171-184 in a dual match at Suburban Golf Course on Tuesday.
Antwerp’s Austin Lichty earned medalist honors with a round of 40. He was followed by teammates Jake Eaken (42), Eric Thronell (42) and Gaige McMichael (47).
Montpelier was led by a round of 44 from Ethan Marihugh, who shot a 44. He was followed by teammates Jake Clinger (45), Easten Richmond (47), Aidan Higbie (48), Roman Sommer (49) and Braydon JoHantgen (50).
NC wins tri-match
The North Central golf team came out victorious in a tri-match against Swanton and Otsego in Swanton on Tuesday. The Eagles won with a total score of 186. Swanton was second with score of 192, while Otsego finished at 232.
The Eagles were led by Mason Sanford, who shot a 44. He was followed by teammates Collin Patten (45), Zack Hayes (46), Jack Bailey (51), Levi Williams (56) and Jack Zenz (59).
Ayersville defeats Hilltop
The Hilltop golf team opened up its 2019 season with a loss against Ayersville on Tuesday.
Ayersville’s Luke Schroeder shot a 44 and earned medalist distinction at the invite. He was followed by teammates Kolton McCloud (45), Cameron Cook (50), Ethan Tressler (53), Jason Caster (58) and Stephen Baker (64).
Hilltop was led by a round of 48 by Avrie Reed, followed by teammates Dominik Schmitt (51), Ethan Siebenaler (51), Jamie Chester (53), Elijah Kuszmaul (53) and Kasin Deck (56).
