The hot start to the 2019 golf season continues for Bryan senior Case Hartman.
With a round of 70 at the Paulding Invitational at Auglaize Golf Club on Thursday, Hartman successfully earned medalist honors for the second straight day. He edged out Tinora’s Dylan Von Deylen, who placed second with around of 72.
As a team, Bryan placed third with a score of 340. Kalida won with a score of 316 and Antwerp was second with 335.
Aiding Bryan to its third-place finish was Nolan Kidston, who fired a round of 82. He was followed by teammates Drew Dauber (91), Nathan Hess (97) and Colin Shirkey (102).
“The experience we gained this week will pay off later when we play sectionals at Kalida and our league tournament at Auglaize,” Bryan coach Tyler Bernath said in an email. “I’m proud of how all the golfers are maturing and overcoming rough holes mentally to score well on the next hole. That is a huge obstacle for all golfers, let alone young adults.”
Bernath also pointed to the fact that the entirety of the Northwest Ohio Athletic League, with the exception of Evergreen, was present at Thursday’s tournament, and Bryan beat all of them, which bodes well for the rest of the season.
“We know the other teams will get better, and we need to get better too,” Bernath said. “Today’s finish puts a target on our back as the league favorite, and we know the rest of the league will give us all they have in the league matches.”
Also in action at the invite, Montpelier was ninth with a score of 365. The Locomotives were led by Hunter Burlew, who shot an 80. He was followed by teammates Aidan Higbie (90), Ethan Marihugh (94), Easten Richmond (101), Brayden JoHantgen (101) and Roman Sommer (107).
Fairview was 12th with a team score of 394. The Apaches were led by a round of 87 from Nathaniel Adkins. He was followed by teammates JT Nusbaum (92), Ronnie Adkins (101), Triston Joost (114) and Brendan Degryse (121).
