The Edon Northwest Local Schools Board of Education has hired Bob Olwin Jr. as head varsity football coach for the 2020-21 school year.

Olwin has had a distinguished football coaching career in Ohio.

He has coached at Antwerp, Mechanicsburg, Tiffin University, Tiffin-Calvert, Arlington, Ridgedale, Fairview, Versailles, Millbury Lake and Ada during a career in which he has assembled a record of 212-62 since 1979.

“I had retired and was being an assistant coach and just missed being the head coach as I had been for 36 years,” Olwin said. “I was looking for another position and Edon, we scrimmaged them, so we knew a little bit about them, and I think they have a lot of potential. I just wanted to come and help the kids improve and succeed. That’s what I’m shooting for.”

Olwin will replace outgoing coach Scott Staten, who resigned in December after a 10-year coaching career at Edon, where he compiled a 54-49 record.

No official reason for Staten’s retirement has been made public. Staten remains employed as a teacher in the district.
